Equality Policy - 2011

Jigsaw’s Policy for Ensuring Equality of Opportunities and for Supporting Children with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities 2011.

We agree to adhere to the new guidelines as set out in the New Equality Act 2010.

E.g. making reasonable adjustment.

Indirect/direct discrimination.

Public Sector Responsibility.

All children are of equal worth, with equal rights to access and advancement where all children have the opportunity to experience a broad range of activities, relevant to their ability and needs.

Staff have attended SENCO Forum meetings run by Bradford Early Years.

We fully support and accept that universal services should be accessible to everyone; therefore members of staff have had training to give them the underpinning knowledge of disability equality and enable us as practitioners to put this theory into practice.

Aims of the Policy

To ensure that all children have the opportunity to experience a broad and balanced range of activities, relevant to their ability and needs.

To develop individual and group programmes and to structure support to enable full participation in activities. To promote positive inclusion in all activities.

To make staff aware of children with learning difficulties and disabilities, and through liaison with the external agencies and effective training, develop their skills of assessing individual needs and the appropriate responses.

To work closely with the parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure that children’s needs are met and that any structured development plans are followed and progress monitored.
