 Arrival and Departure Procedure

Before School

Scheme opens no earlier than 7.30am.

Entry to the building is by the buzzer on the door.

Parents should escort their child/children into the building and sign them in the book which is on the desk.

If for whatever reason staff are not at the setting - you must phone 07866 356236 or 01274 617480 - under no circumstances should you leave your child/children outside the building.

Children will leave the building at 8.30am and be escorted up to their respective school.

Staff will stand with children until the bell rings and they are taken into school by their teacher.

If your child is taken ill during the morning session we will take the children back to Jigsaw and phone you or next of kin.

The staff ratio when walking your children to or from school is one to eight.

After School

Children will be collected from school and escorted to Jigsaw.

Reception children will be collected from their class - all other children will make their way to the designated collection point - Thackley Primary in the playground by the steps and in the main Hall at Idle Primary.

Children will be ticked off the collection list.  If a child is booked in and does not turn up for collection we will go back into school for that child and speak to reception or phone you.

If a child becomes ill during the afternoon session we will phone you.

If the session is unable to run for whatever reason we will phone you.  You must inform us verbally or by telephone if your child/children will not be attending if they are booked in with us.  24 hours notice should be given or the place will be charged for.

When you collect your child you should sign them out in the book on the desk.  You should tell staff who will be collecting the children.  We close at 6pm.

If your child is still at Jigsaw after 6pm there will be a £10 charge.

Closing Centre in an Emergency

In very exceptional circumstances the club might have to close at very short notice due to unexpected emergency.  This could include:

Serious weather conditions

Burst water pipes

Discovery of dangerous structural damage

Fire or bomb scare/explosion

Death of a staff member

Serious assault on a staff member by the public

Serious accident or illness

In most of these cases the Manager and staff would take steps to ensure that children and staff would be kept safe.  We would evacuate the building and take the register with us, meeting at the designated point in the car park.

A member of staff would telephone staff on Standby to ensure children are supervised at this time.

Emergency premises would be 5 Harehill Road, Thackley and parents would be telephoned in the event of this happening.  A notice would appear on the church door if appropriate.

Child Protection Policy

Aims of The Policy

Jigsaw Child Protection Policy is in place to ensure parents and staff are aware of Jigsaw's duty to protect the children in their care, to inform Social Services of suspected child abuse and outline the procedures in place should an allegation be made against a member of staff.

The welfare and safety of the children attending Jigsaw is paramount at all times.  As childcare providers we have a duty to protect the children within our care.

Child Protection procedures are covered during induction training which is carried out with each new member of staff.

Staff are encouraged to undertake Early Years training courses on Child Protection.

Jigsaw has a duty to report any suspicions of abuse to the Local Authority, who will advise of the next steps to be taken.

Staff observe the children and know their normal behaviour patterns, any significant change to previous patterns of behaviour and development will be noted and brought to the prompt attention of the Manager.

Written documentation of conversations and observations will be made, in the event of suspected abuse.  This information will be stored in a locked cabinet and will only be accessible to as few people as need to know.

A record of conversations with parents relating to explanations of injuries received away from Jigsaw will be documented.

Lead responsibility for all child protection issues is Mrs A Ward.  This includes liaison with other professional bodies should an abuse situation be disclosed or suspected.

If an allegation of abuse is made against a staff member of Jigsaw the following procedure will apply:

The staff member will be suspended for the duration of the investigation.  Confidentiality will be maintained during the investigation as far as is practicable.

The Manager will notify both OFSTED and the Social Services Duty Officer of the abuse allegation and staff details.

The investigation into the allegations will be undertaken by the Police and the Child Protection Unit, with full co-operation of the Manager.  Access to written documentation relevant to the child and the allegation will be made available to the relevant investigating bodies.

Should the investigation outcome result in the allegation being unfounded, the employee will be re-instated.

Should the investigation outcome result in a charge being made, an internal disciplinary hearing will be held following which, the employee will be formally dismissed.

Should an allegation be made of the Manager/Proprietor then the same procedure above will be followed.
